Once you leave the noob planet for the Republic Fleet - Carrick Station - you can see a vendors that sell Crew Skills - located in the Crew Skills (duh!) section of the station. I think you can only get 2 skills per Crew member (aka Companion). Complete list here www.swtor-spy.com/crew-skills/Before you choose, I would just click each one and get XP and CANCEL training. Then think about it later. Tink ! Any advice ? ? ?

Tink - can you confirm that rumor for us SWTOR noobs?

Crew Skills are a great thing to have, they alllow you to craft stuff that you can use, trade to others or sell on the Galactic Trade Network (GTN), thats the wentworths on star wars lol. When you first arrive on Carrik Station you can get a mission from a consol near your contact there to check out the diffrent skills. Also, once you make a item you can reverse engineer it to try to learn a better version of it! (20% chance ).
Your crew has diffrent skills as well, when crafting a item all the way at the bottom of the item window you can see what your companion is good at, for example Corso Riggs (smugglers companion) is good at armstech, and i think underworld trading. If you have multiple toons....ok, SINCE y'all have multiple toons lol...it pays to give them diffrent crafting skills. Rewards from the crew quests don't always work with your current skill. You can of course always sell the stuff on the market too lol. =D

As far as i know your companions dont turn on you, but the less affection they have the less damage they do, more damage they take, and longer crafting times. Once you reach the fleet you can buy them gifts to raise their affection lvl (lil green bar in the crew window under thier pic). Also you can send them out to look for companion gifts in the crew quests (underworld trading, investigation, diplomacy, etc...).
On the crew quests....if they crit on the companion gift quests they may also bring you pieces of artifact gifts. Once you get enuf pices you can trade them on the fleet at the curator (i think is his name) for higher tier gifts (ie more affection lol). swtor-spy.com has a companions section that lists their likes and dislikes, this'll help with convo choices as well to gain affection. =)
