'Batman v Superman' Rumored to Set Up 'Shazam,' 'Wonder Woman,' 'Flash' and 'Green Lantern' Movies
According to the newly launched Hollywood-insider site NikkiFinke.com, Warner Bros. is now planning six more movies based off of DC Comics' properties, five of which will be part of the world established in Man of Steel*. According to her, this is the studio's current timeline:
May 2016 – Batman v Superman
July 2016 – Shazam
Xmas 2016 – Sandman
May 2017 – Justice League
July 2017 – Wonder Woman
Xmas 2017 – Flash and Green Lantern team-up
May 2018 – Man of Steel 2
Not only that, but Finke is reporting the reason Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's production start had to slip a little bit is because the studio needed more time to sign contracts with the actors who will be starring in all these stand-alone movies. We already knew characters like Cyborg and Flash would be in Zack Snyder's next movie, but Finke is going one step further to say that a recast Green Lantern (so not Ryan Reynolds) will also be making an appearance.
The last interesting detail here is that she calls the May 2018 movie Man of Steel 2, which would imply that Batman v Superman isn't the direct sequel that people assumed it was. However, it seems a bit more logical that Man of Steel 2 is just the next stand-alone Superman movie. So, sorry Batman fans, but if all of these rumors are right, you're not going to see the Dark Knight get his own movie for at least another four years.
As with all rumors, don't take any of these details to be carved in stone. However, we do know that Warner Bros. is hard at work trying to catch up to Marvel's cinematic universe, so this ambitious plan would certainly get them there.
*Sandman isn't normally a part of the same DC universe as the rest of the Justice League, so don't expect this movie to tie into any of the others.
